With a land area of 2.8 million square kilometers, Argentina is the eighth-largest country in the world. Ranked among the world's wealthiest countries by income per capita at the start of the 20th century, Argentina lost that position over the course of the past century through repeated debt crises and waves of chronic inflation.

After annual inflation reached 211% at the end of 2023, a strict stabilization program brought it down to 118% by the end of 2024. Beef and soybeans, the products of the fertile Pampas plains, form the backbone of exports; the country is also part of the "lithium triangle," which holds a portion of the world's largest lithium reserves.
