With both a population of 212 million and a land area of 8.5 million square kilometers, Brazil is by far the largest country in South America; roughly half of the continent's people and territory lie within its borders. As the world's largest exporter of coffee, soybeans, sugar, and orange juice, the country is a giant of global agricultural trade. About 60% of the Amazon rainforest lies within Brazil's borders, which makes it one of the key actors in the global climate balance.
