Ethiopia: Population and Key Statistics

With 132.1 million people, Ethiopia is the second most populous country in Africa after Nigeria and the tenth most populous in the world; it is also the most populous landlocked country. Never colonized apart from a brief Italian occupation, it is Africa's oldest independent state and keeps a calendar and an alphabet of its own.

The birthplace of coffee, Ethiopia is home to Ethiopian Airlines, the continent's largest carrier, and to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Africa's largest hydroelectric plant.
