With an area of 2.7 million square kilometers, Kazakhstan is the world's ninth-largest country and the largest landlocked one. Only 20.6 million people live on a territory roughly 3.5 times the size of Turkey, which makes it one of the world's most sparsely populated countries.

By far the largest economy in Central Asia, the country stands out for its oil, its natural gas, and the world's largest uranium production. Located at the center of the "Middle Corridor" linking China and Europe, Kazakhstan is also home to the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
