Supplying roughly a quarter of global output, Chile is by far the world's largest copper producer; copper alone accounts for a substantial share of its export earnings. The country is also the world's second-largest lithium producer and, with its reserves in the Atacama Desert, a key player in the battery supply chain.

Chile has a singular geography, stretching about 4,300 kilometers from north to south while averaging no more than 180 kilometers in width; with its income per capita and a life expectancy of more than 81 years, it ranks at the top among the most developed countries in South America.
