Vietnam: Population and Key Statistics
With more than 100 million people, Vietnam is the world's 16th most populous country. Having moved from a planned economy to a market economy through the "Doi Moi" reforms launched in 1986, it has been one of the fastest-growing economies of the past three decades.
One of the countries that has benefited most from the diversification of global supply chains away from China, Vietnam has become a major center for electronics, smartphone, footwear, and textile manufacturing. It is also the world's second-largest coffee exporter.

Expenditure figures come from SIPRI and personnel counts from the IISS, both distributed through the World Bank. Source years differ by indicator, so each figure is shown with its own year.
How Vietnam compares
The indicators use different scales, so the chart is a rough visual comparison only. For exact figures see the full side-by-side comparison.
