With 47.9 million people, Spain is the European Union's fourth-largest economy. Drawing more than 90 million visitors a year, it is one of the world's leading tourist destinations, and tourism accounts for roughly 12 percent of national income. The economy, which grew well above the EU average in 2024, also stands out for its renewable energy investments.

Its life expectancy of 83.8 years is among the highest in Europe; its unemployment rate, however, exceeds 11 percent and sits well above the EU average.
